Fabric, Friendships & Fun at Homestead Quilting

About Homestead Quilting and Fabrics

No art form quite matches the timeless appeal of quilting. Classic and cozy, quilting draws on both cherished traditions and fresh ideas. It offers the rare chance to slow down and discover the joys of togetherness and self-expression.

This is what drives us at Homestead Quilting and Fabrics. Passionate about all things quilting, we find this craft both peaceful and empowering. Our local quilt shop provides the ultimate creative space: a welcoming environment in which quilters from all walks of life can celebrate every stitch.

Our shop was born out of a desire for quilting camaraderie. Founded by the lovely Michelle Medeiros in her quest for community, Homestead Quilting quickly found its footing, earning several distinctions along the way: recognition as a Handi Quilter registered dealer in Lakeville, plus the ByAnnie.com award for Best Quilt Shop in Massachusetts.

Today, Homestead Quilting and Fabrics is one of the region’s most trusted quilting authorities. Expert quilters seek our high-quality products — but we are most proud of our friendly community, which makes beginners feel welcome. Warm and encouraging, our customers show love for each stitch and for each new quilter.

Meet the Teachers

Michelle Medeiros

Michelle Medeiros learned how to quilt in high school Home Economics class. She quilted on and off over the years and it picked up again when her ex-husband deployed. The best part about quilting again was connecting with other quilters in a positive, relaxing environment at a local quilt class. When all the area quilt shops were closing and Michelle needed a career change, she decided to go for it and open her own quilt store so area quilters had a place to go again to not only buy great fabric and notions but to collaborate and just quilt.

Diane H. McGuire

Diane H. McGuire, a retired English teacher, has been quilting and teaching quilting her entire adult life. She enjoys sharing her passion for quilting and the many tips and tricks she has learned over the years. Having extensively researched the history of quilting and studying antique and vintage quilts, she loves to hand piece and hand quilt reproduction miniatures. She also enjoys the creativity and freedom of “art” quilts with tons of embellishments.

Cheryl Martel

Cheryl Martel is happily retired and a grandmother of 7!  She is our resident certified Judy Neimeyer Instructor, and also enjoys hand embroidery projects.  She has amassed quite a stash of quilts, as she has been quilting for a very long time.

Pat Robinson

Pat Robinson is our machine embroidery teacher extraordinaire! She loves helping students get the most out of their embroidery machines!

Community Focus

The Lakeville quilting community is warm and nurturing, as customers quickly discover upon entering our shop. Yes, we want to equip local quilters with the best products and materials — but we also recognize that the true magic of quilting lies in the power of connection. This is why so many aspiring quilters arrive at our shop in search of quilting classes for beginners.

The best introduction to the art of quilting? Patient guidance from a retired high school teacher with over 50 years of quilting experience. As you progress, you can take advantage of machine embroidery classes with a Baby Lock expert or a Judy Neimeyer certified instructor. Private quilting lessons are also available, plus “Sit and Sew” events that offer guidance, inspiration and plenty of laughter.

This commitment to Lakeville extends beyond classes alone. We draw on the power of quilting and the goodwill of the quilting community to support many important causes:

  • Quilts of Valor
  • Quiltsforkids.org
  • Local hospitals
  • Lakeville Arts Council Fair
  • Mullein Hill 5K Run

Homestead quilting community involvement extends to collaborations with other crafting groups, including the Knotty Hookers of Middleboro. We are literally woven into the fabric of the Lakeville community — and we take pride in supporting our neighbors and local businesses.

Exciting news! Homestead Quilting and Fabrics is the winner of the 2024 Best Quilt Shop contest hosted by byannie.com for the second year in a row.
